Bright prospects

Article Abstract:

European Colour is a producer of pigments and coatings from Manchester, England, which is trading strongly in both its activities. The company performed well in the early 1990s recession and looks set to continue growing. European Colour specialises in pigments used in packaging inks, providing low volumes that large chemicals companies see as uneconomic to produce. The company has grown organically and through acquisitions such as Tor Coatings. The company's profit is forecast to rise by 9.5% to 4.51 million pounds sterling in 1999 and nearly 5 million pounds by 2000.

In the pipeline

Article Abstract:

Metrotect Industries producers enamels, wraps and primers for protecting pipelines. The company reported poor results for 1995 to 1996 but has improved its profits in the six months to Sep 1996 despite a drop in sales that was greater than expected. A modern plant at Cleckheaton, UK is operating below capacity and Metrotect can deal with an increase in demand. Three major orders are under way. The company's profit is forecast at 800,000 pounds sterling for 1996 to 1997 by Panmure Gordon.

Regaining its colour

Article Abstract:

European Colour has seen a drop in its stock price but the company operates in niche markets with experienced managers. The company is expanding in specialty pigments and moving away from commodity chemicals. Tor, a coatings producer, was acquired in 1996, and produces functional coatings such as graffiti-resistant coatings. European Colour also produces pigments for printing ink. The company has potential for expanding coverage with certain products especially those produced by Tor.
