Rackwood Minerals should see rapid growth from 1998 power generators' coal supply agreements scheduled for renewal. The company's production dropped in 1st half 1997 but should increase with two new sites providing coal in 4th qtr 1997. The company raised 8.1 million pounds sterling in April 1997 in order to develop a coal mine in Scotland where production is scheduled to commence in 1998. The company's profit is forecast at 2.6 million pounds sterling for 1997.

Coal Investments: biting the dust

Coal Investments failed to win British Coal's English regions, and decided to move into high volume supply of coal with clients like PowerGen and National Power. The company undertook an excessive number of supply contracts and has been faced with production delays. The company has collapsed and could owe some 35 million pounds sterling with shareholders' funds estimated at under 14 million pounds. The administrator appointed for the company is Arthur Anderson.
