No salvation for Salvesen

Article Abstract:

Christian Salvesen plans to demerge Aggreko, the group's equipment hire concern. Many of the company's institutional shareholders argue that Salvesen should not have rejected a bid from Hays in summer 1996, before assessing the details. Salvesen's shares reached 3.66 pounds sterling at the time of the bid. The shares fell by 4% to 3.13 pounds after news of the demerger. The demerger is a sensible move since Aggreko's activites have little synergy with those of Salvesen.

Christian Salvesen

Article Abstract:

Christian Salvesen is a UK distributor which has seen growth at Aggreko, the group's power generator and air conditioner leasing operations. The distribution side saw a rise in operating profit but a drop in operating margin for the six months to sep 1995. Changes in demand and poor crops in the UK have affected the group's food services profits. Profits for 1995-1996 are expected to be similar to those of the previous year, according to analysts.
