Article Abstract:

Manchester, England, has seen the revival of two real estate districts, Castlefield and the Gay Village. Castlefield has canals and warehouses which have been developed to create apartments, hotels, offices and leisure facilities. The Central Manchester Development Corp has helped with the development of both Castlefield and the gay village which is located between a coach station and a canal. A gay shopping center is planned in addition to the existing apartment schemes, bars and restaurants geared to gay customers.

Bradford rises to the challenge

Article Abstract:

Bradford City Challenge is a public sector initiative to promote local companies and urban renewal in Bradford, England. Unemployment on a housing project, the Holmewood Estate, has dropped, and incomes have risen, while crime levels have dropped, following the efforts of the City Challenge. Help has come from the private sector, including Midland Bank and Yorkshire Cable. Bradford Breakthrough Ltd was set up with private sector help and has stimulated investment.
