British consumers in the 1990s: a decade of realism?

Article Abstract:

An analysis of the effects of the 1990s recession on consumer attitudes in the UK and their implications for marketeers and advertisers is presented. The analysis shows that a recession following closely at the heels of euphoric economic expansion in the 1980s will bring about a mood of realism among consumers in the 1990s. This new mood will cause consumers to examine their purchasing very closely. Marketeers and advertisers will have to consider this cautious purchasing pattern long after the economy returns to normal.

British Energy: nuclear accident

Article Abstract:

British Energy has been privatized and share prices fell after concerns were voiced on power station safety. Institutional investors have adjusted their holdings and private investors have had less room for maneuver. Two power plants are to be closed and this will lead to a drop in profit of between 6 million pounds sterling and 10 million pounds for 1996. Share prices for British Energy could undergo some volatility, but the dividend may give some stability.
