CBO sees blimps bolstering logistics, more than C-17s, ships

Article Abstract:

The US Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report revealed that an aircraft from the past might be the future of rapid logistics capabilities, along with developing high-speed logistics ships and keeping ships filled with military needs at anchor in ports close to potential trouble spots. The report also revealed that buying more C-17s from the Boeing Co., or buying larger medium-speed roll-on/roll-off ships that are made by General Dynamics corp. unit National Steel and Shipbuilding, would not greatly increase logistics capacity or speed.

Article Abstract:

The profits of General Dynamics Corp. increased by 21.7 percent in the first quarter of 2004 rising from $221 million in the first quarter last year to the current $269 million owing largely to the Pentagon contracts awarded. Several orders in the Information Systems and Technology group and large orders from the U.S. Navy and Army have contributed to the profits while the civilian side of General Dynamics operations remained steady.
