Charities begin at home

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom charities face competition for donations and government funding so investment income is important to them. They achieved investment returns of 12.7% for 1996 to 1997, with UK equities performing best of different sectors in that period. European equities performed better than UK equities in 1st qtr 1997. Charities have tended to focus on UK equities for over half their investments. The high value of pound sterling has tended to hit returns from overseas investments. Funds have tended to sell UK equities in the few months to Jul 1997, moving into cash.
