China Netcom's IPO raises $1.2 billion

China's second largest fixed-line phone company, China Netcom has raised $1.2 billion in its initial public offering of shares in Hong Kong and American Depository receipts in New York. The details of the public offerings and the proposed plans for utilizing the funds are discussed.

The American depositary receipts of China Telecom listed on the New York Stock Exchange fell 5.4%.Inspite of the reduction the offering was not recieved largely by the United States investors.
