China's space commercialization effort: organization, policy and strategies

Article Abstract:

China's space commercialization effort is a success due to the cooperation betwwen the government and China's space industry. The primary institutions connected with space commercialization are presented along with their functions. All exhibit a high degree of cooperation. The conversion of the industry to meet civilian instead of defense needs gave the industry a much needed boost. The problems China's space industry may experience is the government's historic tendency for intervention and a limited budget spent for research and development.

The meaning of Japan's commercialization efforts

Article Abstract:

Japan's efforts to commercialize the country's space development programs are aimed at cultivating a profitable relationship between the public sector and the government. As the Japanese government's budget for space development is very limited, financial support from private enterprise is very much needed amidst the stiff international competition. However, the potential benefits offered by this partnership can only be utilized if a special program council for spce commercialization is created.

NASA's Earth Observations Commercialization Application Program has passed guidelines for effective federal support of commercial space development activities, including commercial remote sensing. Enhanced financial, technical and research support from the government is paramount for ensuring advances in remote sensing techniques.
