Chloroplastic photorespiratory bypass increases photosynthesis and biomass reduction in Arabidopsis thaliana
Article Abstract:
The Escherichia coli glycolate catabolic pathway was introduced into Arabidopsis thaliana chloroplasts to reduce the loss of fixed carbon and nitrogen that occurs in [C.sub.3] plants. Step wise nuclear transformation was used with five chloroplast targeted bacterial genes encoding glycolate dehydrogenase, glyoxylate carboligase and tartonic semialdehyde reductase plants were generated which reduced but did not eliminate flux of photorespiratory metabolites.

Fusion proteins comprising a Fusarium-specific antibody linked to antifungal peptides protect plants against a fungal pathogen
Article Abstract:
The expression of fusion proteins comprising a Fusarium-specific recombinant antibody linked to one of three antifungal peptides (AFPs) as a method for protecting plants against fungal diseases is reported. Research results demonstrate that antibody fusion proteins may be used as effective and versatile tools for crop plant protection against fungal infection.

Plant cell cultures for the production of recombinant proteins
Article Abstract:
Plant cell cultures are developed as the production systems for recombinant proteins and they highlight the recent achievements that identify the unique benefits of this safe, flexible and efficient production platform. The reasons for protein instability and strategies to enhance protein recovery are described.
