City's faith in Glaxo

Article Abstract:

Glaxo Wellcome has seen a drop in price for Zantac, but brokers are relatively optimistic about the company's stocks, with no sellers in a sample of six. BZW is a buyer and Merrill Lynch is a buyer in the long term. Salomon Brothers argues for maintaining holdings over the short term and buying over the long term. Charles Stanley is cautious and a long-term buyer, as is Societe General Strauss Turnbull, which is holder over the short term. Morgan Stanley sees Glaxo as benefiting from a range of income sources and is a buyer.

Can SB cope on its own?

Article Abstract:

SmithKline Beecham has suffered two failed mergers, and stockbrokers are divided on the companies' stocks' prospects. Two brokers from a sample of six rate the company's stocks a sell, two rate them a hold, and two rate them a buy. The sellers are Lehman Brothers and Panmure Gordon, the holders are Merrill Lynch and SG Securities, and the buyers are Sutherlands and Credit Lyonnais. Both buyers see a likelihood of coporate activity, with lack of stockholder loyalty making this more likely.
