Climbing back up the mountain

Article Abstract:

Paramount is a pub operator which has new auditors and a new management. There have been revisions to 1996 results, and Paramount is undergoing restructuring. Paul Davies is the new chief executive, and he has previously worked at Greenalls, prior to establishing Centric, a pub concern that he later sold. Paramount has 166 pubs in the north west of England, and is carrying out refurbishments of these pubs. Paramount stocks represent a risk for investors, but they also offer the possibility of a recovery.

Something to celebrate

Article Abstract:

Ambishus Pub acquired 31 pubs in 1997 and carried out a stock flotation in 1998. The company's sales and profits have risen in early 1999. Borrowings have risen as a result of the rapid expansion and acquisitions, but there has been stability of gearing at 169%. The main members of the company's board of directors have experience of running larger operations, and its strategy of acquiring community pubs provides some stability compared with companies specialising in theme pubs.

Time for another round

Article Abstract:

The Magic Pub Company may go for a full listing on the UK stock market during 1996. The company was set up in 1994, but some of the group will have been trading for three years by fall 1996. The proportion of turnover coming from food is increasing. The company has invested 21.6 million pounds sterling in the refurbishment of its drinking establishments, and Magic Pub's profits look set to rise in 1996 and 1997 as a result of this investment.
