Company facts: Danone

Article Abstract:

Danone ranks third among food manufacturers in Europe, and acquisitions have helped the group to grow. Weak consumer spending has affected profits in the European market, which represents some nine tenths of sales. The group is expanding into Asia and eastern Europe though has hardly any presence in the US. Danone brands perform well in terms of market share, and this should help the group improve its profits as European demand recovers. Danone should also benefit from its expansion into emerging markets.

Quaker Oats

Article Abstract:

Quaker Oats acquired Snapple, a producer of iced tea, in 1994. Snapple's sales have not grown as much as forecast and competition has increased from large companies such as PepsiCo. Canned teas are also tending to oust bottled teas in this market. Quaker Otas' share price has been boosted due to speculation of a bid with Unilever and Nestle seen as interested potential bidders. Howeverthe shares could underperform if no bid is forthcoming.
