Most analysts think that the US Fed funds interest rate will rise to 4.75% on March 28, 2006, but recent US statistics are ambiguous, and there are significant minorities that question the consensus. The inflationist fear that US rates would have to raise well above 5%, while the deflationists believe that US rates have peaked already at 4.5% and may start to come down before too long, besides, sharp US dollar falls could trigger a hard landing.
