Cool, calm and in the hot seat

Article Abstract:

The chairing of meetings is a skill that should be developed by business people in order to increase their effectiveness in achieving goals at meetings. Chairpersons should plan meetings on the basis of formal agendas. They should also consider which items are troublesome and how much time should be given to each item. During the meeting, chairpersons must be fair, exercise self-control, and concentrate on the business at hand in order to be able to make objective reactions. Chairpersons must also be ready to compromise in order to maintain control of outcomes.

Tribology

Article Abstract:

Tribology is crucial to mechanical engineering. The study of interacting parts in relative motion, it includes friction, wear and lubrication. Wear reduces efficiency in several ways, including abrasion, adhesion, erosion, fretting, corrosion and delamination. Most of these are preventable with hydrodynamic lubrication, or interposing a film of fluid between two sliding surfaces. Surface roughness is always present and must be considered in calculating lubrication.
