Online banking services have developed more fully in the US than in the United Kingdom, but the number of users in the UK is increasing due to Egg and other new online products proving attractive. There could be as many as seven million users five years from 1999. Pioneering banks in the UK include Bank of Scotland, NatWest, and First Direct. Mortgages can be obtained online. Nationwide and Cheltenham and Gloucester are among mortgage banks offering online services.
