Credit Executives Speak Out on Policy Making

Article Abstract:

Trade credit literature tends to focus on analyzing investments in accounts receivable. It does not sufficiently cover the underlying factors making a change in credit terms a good investment decision. A series of interviews were conducted with twenty-seven credit executives and managers. These individuals represent the areas of manufacturing, retailing, wholesaling, and banking. They come from all regions of the United States. Responses involve the reasons for the existence of credit, decisions to alter credit terms and specific credit terms. The study affirms that credit executives feel there is a great need for credit policy research. They are most interested in guidance in the area of temporary credit changes.

Credit Lines by Trade Experience

Article Abstract:

Credit lines can be placed in three categories. The categories are internal, external and financial. Most credit decisions incorporate all three. Young businesses have difficulty obtaining credit. External factors are important to analyze in this time of high interest rates. The credit application is the most common source of external information. Each company should design its own form. Many credit grantors acknowledge trade clearances from credit interchange sources. Agency ratings are used to arrive at dollar credit decisions. External techniques of determining credit lines are, at best, tentative.
