Computer Company Sets Fast Pace in Global Marathon
Article Abstract:
The international market for computer software is expanding quickly. Computer Associates International (CA) is a large supplier of software for mainframes, microcomputers and minicomputers. CA's offices abroad are more comprehensive than any other United States software company. Each international office gets some central support but each office develops its own marketing, pricing and distribution strategies. CA offers over fifty software products. None of its competitors provide as varied a product line. CA's synergy campaign, points out that using two or more software products from the company provides software synergy. This successful campaign has been used by all of the European offices. CA's revenues of around $80 million, clearly make it one of the leading independent suppliers of software programs.

Newspaper Ad Rates Soar in Past Decade
Article Abstract:
A sampling of newspaper advertising rates in seven countries shows that rates rose dramatically between 1973 and 1983. These countries are Hong Kong, Japan, Mexico, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States and West Germany. Currency fluctuations have been the rule since 1973. Advertising rates measured in local currencies show a different pattern than rates measured in United States currency. West Germany's record for the ten year period was strong. Its advertising rate increases stayed below the United States inflation rate. Newspaper circulation continued to improve as the population grew. The Japanese are the most avid newspaper readers, although advertising rates are being reduced in 1984. The newspapers sampled within this study were selected as a cross section for each country.
