Managing for disinflation

Article Abstract:

Financial managers are worried about the effects of disinflation, the decreasing rate of inflation, and how it will affect their accounting policies and practices. Among the strategies recommended to controllers and financial managers in times of disinflation are: redeployment of assets and cash, and refinancing of debt. Although disinflation seems likely to continue, given certain economic indicators such as falling oil prices, there are economists who predict a resurgence of inflation due to the national deficit, increased money supply and possibly sky-rocketing gold and commodity prices. Investment management and accounting practices given either scenario are discussed.
