Cyclic mechanical strain regulates the development of engineered smooth muscle tissue

Article Abstract:

The mechanical properties of engineered tissues can be enhanced by the appropriate combination of mechanical stimuli and polymeric scaffolds. The mechanical properties of tissues engineered from cells and polymer scaffolds are appreciably lower than the indigenous tissues they replace. Smooth muscle tissue was engineered on two different polymeric scaffolds and subjected to cyclic mechanical strain.

A fluorescent variant of a protein from the stony coral Montipora facilitates dual-color single-laser fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy

Article Abstract:

Dual-color fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy (FCCS) is used for quantifying protein-protein interactions. The monomeric version of a fluorescent protein, called Keima, is combined with cyan fluorescent protein that allows dual-color FCCS with a single laser line and complete separation of the fluorescent protein emissions.
