DAB begins review of navy multi-mission aircraft

Article Abstract:

The US Navy's Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft (MMA), which is a program to replace the service's aging P-3C Orion long-range submarine hunter, was reviewed by the Defense Acquisition Board (DAB) prior to approving its planned $1.6 billion early development phase. The development phase, which is being competed for by Lockheed Martin Corp. and Boeing Co., will be followed by a procurement program for approximately 150 aircraft and it is anticipated that international sales could double that number.

The Boeing Company and its suppliers have invested almost $1 billion of their own money for developing the KC-767 aerial refueling tanker aircraft that Boeing hopes the Air Force will buy.
