Data Protection Act

Article Abstract:

Methods of complying with the Data Protection Act of 1984, passed in Great Britain, are outlined. The law applies to any corporation, whether or not operated for profit, that uses computers to process data related to people; these organizations must register with the newly created Data Protection Registry and assure the Registry that they are following eight data processing principles set down in the law to ensure accuracy of information, confidentiality, and data security. Failure to comply with the law is punishable by fine of as much as 1,000 pounds sterling.
