Melrose, FL-based Apik has launched an anti-mugging device that comprises a DNA sampler available over the Internet (www.defender-dna.com) for $59.95. The device sports a 3/8 inch probe that punctures the skin, extracting a flesh sample sufficient for DNA analysis. The UK Home office has declared the device illegal but the South African and German governments are not opposed to its use. The author feels that it would be alright to use in the US.

A method, in vitro glycorandomization (IVG) is reported to diversify the glycosylation patterns of complex natural products. Flexible glycosyltransferases on nucleotide diphosphosugar (NDP-sugar) libraries to generate glycorandomized natural products is used.
