Defense budget pressures don't trouble Northrop, exec says

Northrop Grumman Corp.'s chief financial officer reported that the prospects for continued revenue growth in the defense sector are sound, despite warnings from some observers that federal deficits and burgeoning war costs could cut into acquisition outlays. In his briefing, he pointed to projected growth in Department of Defense investment accounts, which bundle together procurement with research and development spending.

Experts see emarginal' effort by Pakistan in terror fight

South Asian experts state that the government of Pakistan has taken only half measures to stop infiltration by Taliban and al Qaeda elements, despite millions in U.S. funds to keep troops posted on the frontier with Afghanistan. Experts also reported that Pakistan's security structures are unwilling to serve ties with jihadi groups and religious extremists.

New carbine could be fielded by next summer

Article Abstract:

The Army is planning to replace the decade-old MI6 rifle and its variants with an advanced 5.56-mm rifle in the summer of 2005. This new rifle, known as the XM8 Light weight Carbine, is assumed to be a modular weapon that can be reconfigured as a close-quarters assault gun, a sharpshooter rifle or a high-capacity automatic rifle.
