Demand for real estate strategy specialists grows

Article Abstract:

International business enterprises are increasingly using outsourcing for their real estate management requirements. Real estate and the administration of real estate assets rank second to personnel in costs for such firms, so companies are seeking flexibility and control of exposure to such costs. Real estate advisers have to meet this challenge through the creation of dedicated teams. Services which can be provided include real estate audits and an assessment of the real estate needs of firms in line with their objectives.

Property market on the move

Article Abstract:

South Africa's real estate market followed patterns in western countries until 1994 when prices rose. Tenants have not been deterred by price rises, and prime office space is still cheap compared with other international locations. Regional shopping malls have predominated in the retail real estate market but retail warehouses are also being developed. The townships have tended to be neglected due to the legacy of apartheid and they hold potential for future investment.

Property: are two years of solid performance enough to change trustees' attitudes to bricks and mortar?

Article Abstract:

The most immediate factor shaping trustees' thinking towards property, is the new Pensions Act, which has increased their uncertainty. They are also uncretain about the minimum funding requirements (MFR) influence on asset allocation, and are thus not willing to commit significant new funds to assets that may have to be sold subsequently.
