Dissemination of price-sensitive information and management of voluntary corporate disclosure

Article Abstract:

Research on 27 UK companies and how they tackle the issue of price-sensitive information shows that regulations have limitations when companies are seeking clear boundaries. Legal concepts may not be easy to apply in practice, and it is not always easy to assess whether information is price-sensitive. Companies may have difficulty in ascertaining how market expectations affect their share prices. There are parallels with research carried out by Gibbins, though there are also differences in findings.

ProShare is a UK investors' organization which is opposed to this change, but investors have often lost money when buying new issues, and have become more cautious. This means that shares often have to be underpiced to attract public interest.
