Dobbies needs cash for growing market

Article Abstract:

Dobbies Garden Centres carried out a successful stock placing on the Unted Kingdom Alternative Investment Market in 1997, and the company plans a further stock issue in 1998. The company reported a rise in profit of 62% to 1.02 million pounds sterling for 1997, and these could rise to 1.745 million pounds in 1998. The company plans to open more garden centers, and this is an expanding market in the United Kingdom. Dobbies is one of only three public companies involved in the field.

Wyevale Garden Centres

Article Abstract:

Wyevale Garden Centres has been affected by new UK Sunday legislation which has restricted the company's opening hours. Turnover for 1st half 1995 was reduced by between 3% and 4% due to this legislation, though the company recovered some of this loss by opening later at night. Garden and house plants account for some 50% of sales, and dry weather in spring 1995 followed by cold weather in Jun 1995 affected plant sales. Sales of garden furniture rose, compensating for this drop.
