Don't just surrender

Article Abstract:

Investors with endowment policies may need to raise cash, and should think of selling them on the secondhand market rather than accepting values set out by insurers. Traded endowment policies are increasingly popular and some 20 companies trade in them in the United Kingdom. Investors who buy secondhand endowment policies have to keep up contributions, and the future returns cannot be predicted. They can still achieve good results, and there are tax benefits for investors who have not used their capital gains allowance.

One gamble always worth taking

Article Abstract:

There are five main types of life assurance offered to United Kingdom investors, including level-term assurance, which pays a lump sum if the policyholder should die during the policy term. Convertible term insurance can be converted into an investment contract, while renewable increasable term assurance can be renewed, with the sum assured increased. Decreasing term assurances reduces the sum assured during the term. There is also family income benefit, paying an income if the policyholder dies.

Taking cover

Article Abstract:

Health and life insurance cover provides funds in case of tragedies such as disability or death, and the particular mix of products needed depends on the circumstances of individual households. Each partner should have cover, and it should pay a lump sum for critical illnesses as well as on death. Income protection is available for people in paid work, and the regular sums paid may be more valuable than a lump sum. Professional advice should be sought when buying these products.
