Plans for the future

Article Abstract:

Investment trusts can offer low charges and good performance, but they have tended to be ignored by the British public since they have not been well publicised. This is changing with an advertising campaign by the industry, which is advertising personal pensions among its products. Investment trusts may offer a better alternative than pension schemes sold by insurers, which may have high charges and poor administration. Investment trust pensions could also become more popular as a result of changes being introduced by the government to pension saving.

Same story, different results

Article Abstract:

United Kingdom split capital investment trusts include capital stocks which have performed well in the three years to Jan 1998. Capital stocks can perform especially well when market conditions as a whole are good, but they can also involve more risk. Other stockholders have to be paid before capital stockholders. There is a potential danger in comparing capital stocks with stocks from conventional trusts since the problem of risk may not be apparent to potential investors.
