Effect of work station design on sitting posture in young children

Article Abstract:

An ergonomic work station causes a better postural alignment and reduces the activity of muscles of the lower and middle back in comparison to a conventional work station when children use it while performing tracing tasks. If this suitable spinal alignment and reduced muscle activity is sustained over a longer period, such as the period of stay in school, it may reduce muscular fatigue. It may have a positive impact on the learning capacity of children.

The use of Taguchi's methods for the evaluation of industrial knife design

Article Abstract:

Taguchi's method of design evaluation was applied to a knife design. The method essentially has three parts, namely, the loss function, the design array, and the signal to noise ratio. It is found that the method may be a valuable tool for making knife design decisions based on performance criteria. The technique can also be used for designing other hand tools essential for the study of ergonomics.
