Supermarket sweep for Electronic Retailing

Article Abstract:

Electronic Retailing Systems saw a drop in its share price after it was floated on Nasdaq, and then moved to the UK Alternative Investment Market (Aim). The company has invested $50 million in developing ShelfNet, an automaic pricing system at shelves in stores. The development of this system could follow the pattern set by Epos systems. The company could report a loss of $8.8 million in 1996, break even in 1997 and could achieve a profit of $14.1 million pounds in 1998, according to Henderson Crosthwaite.

Perceptions of the Royal Mail case in the Netherlands

Article Abstract:

Evidence suggests that Dutch auditors studying the 1931 Royal Mail case are more concerned with unspecific matters relating to the role of the auditor than to the issue of secret reserve accounting. It would seem, therefore, that Dutch auditors are more aware of responsibility issues affecting the profession that their British counterparts. The Royal Mail case has had little impact on Dutch auditors in general.
