Erythroprotein in the UK: A setback for gene patents?

Article Abstract:

The invalidity of erythroprotein (EPO) in the United Kingdom litigation has come as a shock to many patent attorneys. The contemplation of both the Court of Appeal and the House of Lords that gene sequences are to be assessed as 'discoveries' or just 'information about the natural world' would be seen by patent attorneys as ominous for future gene patents.

E3 gene manipulations affect oncolytic adenovirus activity in immunocompetent tumor models

Article Abstract:

The E3 gene effects are determined by injecting tumors along with an adenoviruses. Results show that adenovirus replication , CD8(sup)8 lymphocyte infiltration, and efficacy are similar in two of the adenoviruses, while in the third greater macrophage infiltration and expression of both tumor necrosis factor and interferon-gamma.
