European laws help boost demand

Latchways is a supplier of safety equipment which has seen a strong performance in its stock price since 1997, when the company underwent a stock flotation. The company's underlying profits have grown for five consecutive years, and there is scope for further growth. Four fifth of sales are accounted for by the Mansafe system. The company registed eight patents in 1998 and is able to develop products in line with clients's needs after consultations with those clients. The company could achieve a profit of 2.8 million pounds sterling for 1999 to 200, rising to 3.6 million pounds for the following year, according to Bell Lawrie White.

Strong underlying performance

Article Abstract:

Thomas Locker is an engineering firm which acquired Pentre, a producer of drums and reels, in 1996. Philip Gartside was appointed as chairman and Michael Seymour as chief executive in that year, with both men coming from Pentre. The company is involved in air filtration, industrial consumibles and process machinery. Air filtration has seen a drop in operating profit, but the other two division have seen profit rises for 1997 to 1998. The company's profit is forecast at 4 million pounds sterling for 1998 to 1999 by Albert E Sharp.

EIS

Article Abstract:

EIS is a UK supplier of components including aircraft parts. The company is seeing a rise in demand and turnover increased in 1st half 1995 without a contribution from new acquisitions. Transmissions and seals accounted for a little under 50% of EIS' profit for 1994. Precision engineering and aircraft parts accounted for four of five acquisitions made in 1st half 1995, and the new companies accounted for 2.26 million pounds turnover in this period.
