Ex vivo generation of fully mature human red blood cells from hematopoietic stem cells

Article Abstract:

Ex vivo conditions that couple extensive amplification of human hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) into the erythroid lineage with total red cell enucleation are used to describe the generation of cultured human red blood cells. The characteristics of functional, native, adult red blood cells (RBCs) in terms of enzyme content, membrane deformability and the capacity to fit and release oxygen were found in vitro generated RBCs.

Bacterial glycosidases for the production of universal red blood cells

Article Abstract:

The major impediment in the development of a universal blood group was the unavailability of efficient glycosidase enzymes. The bacterial glycosidases are discovered that are capable of removal of A and B antigens at neutral pH with low consumption of recombinant enzymes and involve Nicotinamide Adenosine (NAD) in their catalytic mechanism.

Stem cell-derived erythroid cells mediate long-term systemic protein delivery

Article Abstract:

The capacity of erythroid cells to mediate long-term, systemic and therapeutic protein delivery in vivo is described. It is seen that hemophilia B. Erythroid cell-driven hFIX is biologically active and results in phenotypic correction of the bleeding disorder.
