Exercise performance during inspiratory resistance breathing under exhaustive constant load work

Article Abstract:

The effects of different inspiratory resistances on exercise performance were studied. Subjects undertook exhaustive treadmill exercise during constant load work of 80% of maximal aerobic capacity. Results suggest a significantly reduced mean respiration rate, minute ventilation and oxygen ventilatory equivalent. Breathing comfort did not alter significantly between resistances under the R3 level.

Effects of basic training on material handling ability and physical fitness of British Army recruits

Article Abstract:

The efficacy of the British Army basic training in improving material handling performance and physical fitness was evaluated. It is concluded that the physical adaptions of recruits to British Army basic training are generally positive. However there was little evidence of improvements in muscular strength, and operational effectiveness could therefore be hindered.
