Spain's prime minister, Felipe Gonzalez, may be forced to hold n early election which could result in a victory for the Partido Popular (PP). The PP favors business and a PP victory is likely to boost share prices. The sale of a stake in Telefonica did not attract strong interest from outside Spain. Spanish shares could see a 10% price rise in the year from Oct 1995, according to Goldman Sachs. Political events, strong earnings and a strong policy toward interest rates should help.
