VHE's finances set back by multiple pitfalls

Article Abstract:

VHE is a land-reclamation company from Yorkshire, England. The company has been affected by a dispute over an earthworks contract with the Black Country Development Corp as the ultimate client. The cost was higher and the delay longer than expected due to there being more mine shafts to deal with. A price has yet to be agreed for this work. The company's profit is forecastat 3 million pounds sterling for 1995 to 1996 by NatWest Securities, a downward revision, with a rise to 4 million pounds for 1996 to 1997, also a downward revision.

Utility Cable is a UK company specialising in cable installation.The company has seen a drop in its share price of 25% for the first four months of 1995 but looksset to increase the number of its contracts. The company has been awarded a 20 million poundssterling contract for Bell Cable Media with bexley, a borough in London, England. Newcontracts are being awarded at good price levels. A pre-tax profit of 5.5 million pounds sterling isforecast by Greig Middleton, with a 6.6 million pounds profit forecast for 1996.

Utility digs its way out of the cable trench

Article Abstract:

Utility Cable digs holes for nine of the 10 UK cable companies, with an 18% stake in the UK market. The company's operating margins have been affected by a rise in diesel prices, but they are still almost 6%. The market cable digging is finite and some 40% of the market already has had cables laid. The company can still find work from replacing and repairing cables and this could account for 30% of future order. The company is also diversifying and has dug for pipelaying for Anglian Water.
