Exploration and exploitation alliances in biotechnology: a system of new product development

Article Abstract:

The role of strategic alliances in the new product development process is analyzed by providing a link between alliance participation by technology ventures beginning with discovery and culminating with product on the market. a new model is presented, which provides predictions of managerial behavior at different stages of the new product development process including the type of alliances a firm is likely to enter.

Old technology meets new technology: complementarities, similarities, and alliance formation

Article Abstract:

Factors leading to alliance formation between pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies are studied. Pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms are more likely to enter into an alliance based on complementarities when the biotechnology firm is younger.
