Manufacturers Take Different Roads Toward Same Destination

Article Abstract:

As videocassette recorders (VCRs) lower in price to become a mass-market product, manufacturers are expected to step-up their advertising campaigns. The task for relative newcomers such as Korea's Goldstar and Samsung is to establish company and brand recognition. Other VCR manufacturers are planning new advertising campaigns to emphasize new features, such as 'smart decks', Hi Fi VCRs, and portable systems. Sony has secured its place in the market with its Beta format by introducing Beta Hi Fi and Betamovie and following up with aggressive marketing. Photographs of two sample advertisements are included.

Fitt's law with transmission delay

Article Abstract:

A study exploring Fitt's law on transmission delay was conducted on eight right-handed male undergraduate engineering students. A mathematical model describing movement task with transmission delay was used. Fitt's law indicates movement time in the equation MT = a + b(ID) where ID = log2(2A/W). Results indicate that Fitt's law is robust for this situation and that a delay time of 0.7 s was calculated.
