Article Abstract:

Marling Industries reported a loss for 1996 to 1997, with exceptionals accounting for much of the loss. The company has sold Muller Elastics, involved in healthcare products, and can focus on seat belt webbing. A JV in China is performing well, providing profits ahead of schedule. A JV has also been set up in Malaysia and should achieve breakeven point in 1997 to 1998. The company could achieve broker forecasts of a profit of 4.5 million pounds sterling for 1998 to 1999 if it can penetrate the US market.

Good vibrations

Article Abstract:

Mayflower is acquiring Pullman Co which produces vibration control parts for automobiles through Clevite. Mayflower plans a rights issue to fund the deal which gives Mayflower access to markets like Mexico and Brazil. Mayflower also increases its range, and car manufacturers are seeking to reduce the number of suppliers they deal with. Pullman's liabilities will reduce Mayflower's net assets but should reduce Mayflower's tax bill, while Mayflower will be able to cut costs.
