Following the property market higher

Article Abstract:

Eleco Holdings entered the real estate industry in the late 1980s and the market then crashed. Eleco has disposed of its real estate and distribution businesses and has withdrawn from contracting and housebuilding, and focuses on building products. Executive chairman, John Ketteley, was appointed in Jan 1997, and the company reported an operating profit for 2nd half 1996 to 1997. The company should benefit from an improvement in the market. The company's pre-tax profit is forecast at 1.06 million pounds sterling for 1998 by Hardman and Co.

RMC builds on German opportunities

Article Abstract:

RMC is a UK construction materials company which has benefited from the expansion of the German construction industry to 1995. Germany accounts for under 50% of the company's profit and the housing sector accounts for some 25% of sales in Germany. Fears about the impact of a slowdown in housebuilding in Germany on RMC could thus be exaggerated. The company plans acquisitions which could help offset dependence on Germany.
