Article Abstract:

Many surveys pointed out the dangers of a long working-hours culture from stress- induced ill health to rising divorce rates and a predicted mass exodus of burnt out employees from their jobs. Long working hours is accepted and expected as part of the job but a new survey of unpaid overtime by the Trades Union Congress is against this practice and it has long campaigned against excessive working hours.

Pre-budget sting will be in what Brown doesn't say

Speculation is rife about the pre-budget announcements of the British Chancellor, Gordon Brown, and it is conjectured that with elections round the corner he is unlikely to announce any major tax hikes. How the Chancellor will rake in the pounds 6billion-8billion extra tax revenue needed to meet his expenditure targets is worrying the trade pundits.

High level of stress, depression and alcoholism are becoming common in the working lives of accountants. The statistics show that more than one third of the ICAEW members are addicted to alcohol and the suicide rates among them have also increased due to work pressure.
