GAO faults DOD on protecting bases

Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported that the Department of Defense (DOD) has failed to assemble a truly comprehensive plan for protecting military installation from terrorist attacks. GAO believes that DOD's ongoing initiatives to improve installation preparedness might not be effectively or efficiently implemented until a more-oriented plan is developed that clearly articulates the military response capabilities to be developed and integrated with the civilian community,

Embraer gained state/local aid for ACS facilities

Article Abstract:

A detailed explanation about how Embraer built the Army/Navy Aerial Common Sensor (ACS) aircraft aided by the city of Jacksonville and the state of Florida is presented. Finally Embraer found a former U.S. military installation in Jackson-ville that was called Naval Station Cecil Field until it was closed in a BRAC, or Base Realignment and Closure action.

Like warships fleet, money a hurdle for sealift ships

Commander of the Military Sealift Command, Vice Adm. David Brewer described how commercial container ships could be transformed into extremely efficient, high-speed material handling-system. Brewer said that gaining financial support for new types of logistics ships might require offsets, giving up money for other programs.
