Gender influences on performance, mood and recovery sleep in fatigued aviators

Article Abstract:

Gender was found to have no bearing on how inadequate sleep affects the simulated flight performance and mood of pilots. In a study involving six male and six female pilots, male and female responses to one operational stressor, namely, sleep deprivation, were studied to determine whether gender influences performance, mood and recovery sleep among tired aviators. Although the women pilots tested exhibited less tension and more energy, no linkage between sleep deprivation and gender was established as far as flight performance or psychological mood was concerned.

Interobserver repeatability and validity of an observation method to assess physical loads imposed on the upper extremities

Article Abstract:

A semiquantitative, time-based observation method was utilized to estimate physical loads placed on the upper extremities. The method was used to observe workers at a food processing plant and paper mill to determine high risk factors for repetitive strain injuries in which the authors concluded the validity of the method was positive.
