Get the facts on the anthrax vaccine

Article Abstract:

The anthrax vaccine, since the implementation of the Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program in 1998, has been given to over 400,000 US military personnel in the different services. Of the 620 adverse reactions reported after the vaccination process, a mere 70 required over 24 hours of lost active duty and none were ever life-threatening or resulted in disability. Unfounded stories regarding the effects of the anthrax vaccine are simply perpetuating a disinformation campaign.

Navy purchases ducted rocket

Article Abstract:

The Navy has awarded Orbital Sciences Corp (OSC) with a contract to develop a supersonic low-altitude target. The most interesting aspect of OSC's design is its use of a new kind of engine, which is a ducted rocket. The ducted rocket resembles a rocket with a jet-type afterburner and can be mistaken for a ramjet. The fuel mixture in ducted rockets is deliberately fuel heavy so they can burn much longer at full thrust compared to a conventional rocket.

New waterjet propulsors are efficient and quiet

Article Abstract:

Bird-Johnson has developed a new generation of waterjet propulsion systems in which both entry and exhaust are underwater. The acoustic performance of the pump-jet is far better than that of most propellers but it costs much less than exotic low-noise propellers. Tests with a model of a frigate indicated that the pumpjet was about as efficient as the standard propeller at 25 knots but more efficient both above and below that speed.
