Article Abstract:

Instant messaging (IM) can help accountants communicate more quickly and easily with colleagues and clients. It is a useful medium because costs less than long distance phone calls and offers more immediacy than email. But it can also be addictive and its uncontrolled use can adversely affect the performance of corporate telecommunications network or home computer systems while increasing exposure to security problems.
