Graphic action

Article Abstract:

The Women's Action Coalition (WAC) comprises politically-aware women artists who use posters and other graphic media to express their ideas on issues such as abortion, rape, and social attitudes toward lesbians. The WAC and other radical groups used to put up their posters at night, because they had no political platform to express their social concerns. Moreover, the Republicans avoided discussion on social issues. WAC played an important role during the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in 1992 by organizing slide shows and poster campaigns to highlight their concerns.

In search of the green machine

Article Abstract:

The design industry should model itself upon nature to avoid environmental damages. Recycling has become a major factor in designing and an exhibition on products made from recycled materials called 'Hello Again' revealed that the designers could have a role in solving environmental problems. Experts believe that industry can play a positive role in saving the environment if it follows the principle of recycling. A society called the International Ecological Design Society is established by environmental experts which will work to popularize the eco-friendly designs.

Electronic youth

Article Abstract:

Graphic designing is a hybrid profession which blends arts and technology with tradition and innovation. Modern designers can utilize the best of all media in innovating designs. Young designers have a more casual attitude towards typeface designing, as the advent of fontmaking software has merged typeface with graffiti. But HTML, a commonly used language on the World Wide Web, offers limited scope for text manipulation. Despite differences in their attitudes, approaches and culture, the present generation of young graphic designers still have a sense of history.
