Harvey: Risk inherent to FCS development; JTRS isn't

Article Abstract:

US Secretary of the Army, Francis Harvey stated that he is willing to accept higher risk than the Government Accountability Office (GAO) in developing technologies for the Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) project. He added that the massive FCS modernization is not dependent on the future of the troubled Joint Tactical Radio Systems (JTRS) program.

Tech called JTRS surrogates; Raytheon, ITT team to meet army comms needs

Article Abstract:

Raytheon Company and ITT Industries are collaborating to provide advanced communication systems to the U.S. Army to meet a gap in capabilities that exists until the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) is deployed in 2006. Called MicroLight 3G and the 'Sidehat' module, the new technology would provide simultaneous voice and data communications.

U.S. President George W. Bush states that Army can use the money of about $14.6 billion originally slated for the dead Comanche helicopter program to meet a variety of pressing needs like accelerating air crew protection and aircraft survivability equipment initiatives.
