Consumers are spurring demand for new inkjet media possessing photographic quality. Epson America Inc., renowned for its excellent desktop printers, created new desktop printers called Stylus Photo EX and Stylus Photo 700. Hewlett-Packard manufactures extensive inkjet printers under the HP DeskWriter and DeskJet brands. Imation Corp. produced Imation Photo Quality Inkjet Paper for digital printing. Kodak Digital Science turned out KDS Inkjet Premium Transparency Film. Konica U.S.A. Inc. is marketing its Konica "QP" Photo Ink Jet Paper in three thicknesses.

Eastman Kodak Co of Rochester, NY, has unveiled the new media for Kodak Professional 8660 thermal dye sublimation printer. The Kodak Professional Ektatherm Xtralife Matte Three-Color Ribbon for Kodaak Professional Ektatherm XLS print paper produces page-size thermal prints with the look and feel of a traditional matte-finish photo. The image produced also has a continuous-tone photo quality.

Altech Company Ltd of Tokyo, Japan, has unveiled its Megapixel II high- speed dye sublimation printer for printing digital camera images. The desktop-size unit is capable of producing a 300 dpi, four-by-six inch princh in 15 seconds. THe unit does not require a computer to operate and directly accepts digital camera CompactFlash, SmartMedia and Sony Memory Stock memory cards.
