House panel funding three more ships, but caps DD(X) cost

Article Abstract:

A key US House subcommittee has approved the authorization for building three Navy ships but has set a cost limit for the next-generation DD(X) destroyers that is only half or less of the projected cost. The subcommittee has additionally ordered that Virginia Class submarines should stay within the cost limits set by fiscal 2006 budget.

Navy needs more, and more affordable, ships

Article Abstract:

Navy is facing difficulties regarding ships because of the soaring ship prices and it needs more affordable ships. Robert Work, a military analyst presented possibilities, rather than a hard and fast recommendation, for naval procurement and the fleet of the future, expanding on a previously discussed analytical work.
